Friends,

It is with felt gratitude that we embrace the day of thanks that is before us. Betsy and I have such gratitude for the whispers and winks of support, the sweet reconnections and reflections arriving in their various ways at the sanctuary that is our nest of care here in La Jolla. Thank you all for holding such sweet space for Betsy. May we all feel the song of gratitude that sings through the heart of our community and may your heart feel the pull into the present that comes with the thrill of harmonic overlays - the songs of your various communities, be they friends, family, neighbors, people who you simply smile with in passing. This is our world; and we are all here, here in this place, at this time, in the life and times of this coyote universe. Betsy and I thank you for being in this ocean of love. And let’s all give thanks for this ocean that we are. Betsy’s mother passed away last night in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She lived with a quality of life that reflected her style and charm. And she left this world just as that quality of life was starting to get pulled out from under her. Perfect timing. A real class act right to the end. And we never had to let her know what we’re dealing with here. This morning, my brother David passed this poem on to me. It speaks for itself, and I hope it speaks to us all. Written by Khalil Gibran, it’s called Fear… It is said that before entering the sea a river trembles with fear. She looks back at the path she has traveled, from the peaks of the mountains, the long winding road crossing forests and villages. And in front of her, she sees an ocean so vast, that to enter there seems nothing more than to disappear forever. But there is no other way. The river can not go back. Nobody can go back. To go back is impossible in existence. The river needs to take the risk of entering the ocean because only then will fear disappear, because that’s where the river will know it’s not about disappearing into the ocean, but of becoming the ocean.
